As part of our test, a certified inspector will carefully check the following components to ensure they meet North Carolina state vehicle standards:

  • North Carolina state vehicle inspection fees are $13.60. Emissions inspection fees, which include vehicle inspections, cost $30.00.
  • Your vehicle must pass inspection before its registration can be renewed. You must have your vehicle inspected no more than 90 days before your plate expires.
  • If your vehicle was made before 1995, it is exempt from having an emissions inspection. However, it will still need to have a state vehicle inspection.
  • Cars and trucks that are 35 years old or older are exempt from North Carolina state vehicle and emissions inspections.
